In Luke 3:16, John answered them all, “I baptize you with water. But one who is more powerful than I will come, the thongs of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.”
God is a Consuming Fire.
Deuteronomy 4:24
“For the LORD your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.”
Hebrews 12:28-29
“Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our 'God is a consuming fire.”
Baptism of Fire is a baptism of holiness, a circumcision of our hearts. We are in the season of holiness and God is removing every stumbling block in His Churches that keeps the people from knowing Him, through the Baptism of Fire. If God did not veil the Jews with spiritual blindness, Jesus would not have walked into His will and be crucified.
God purifies His people because He loves them. Zechariah 13 describes this as refining fire, to burn away all the dross, the junk that we have accumulated throughout our lives by our carnal living. God wants to refine us to be like Jesus to work and see in the Spirit.
The fire of God will burn and purify us till we are able to see things that others could not. 1 Samuel 16:7 depicts that The LORD does not look at the things human beings look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.
His fire will burn away all the demonic defilements that have clung on to your lives - a supernatural deliverance where all demonic defilements, evil curses and works of the enemy have to go. God’s fire sets you free from every oppression, liberating your spirit - that changes your life to be a vessel of honour for God (2 Tim 2:20-21) seeing and walking in the Spirit to work with Him in greater measure.
2 Timothy 2:20-21
“But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor. Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work.”
Every believer must burst through the gravity of the flesh to understand the freedom and the truth. The freedom is the truth where we knit in unity with Christ with the mind and DNA of Christ, bringing us into maturity, resulting in the image and likeness of Christ (Ephesians 3:16-19).
This bursting through the gravity of the flesh is like a rocket being launched into space. To do this, we need God’s fire power which gives us the ‘push’ and free us from the gravity. Once we are freed from this gravity of the flesh, we are then free to work with God in unity (John 14:11). As a spacecraft in orbit can see earth more clearly, so will a man put in such a position see things that other cannot see.
