If God has chosen you to be a disciple to be consecrated and set apart for His use on a greater measure (2 Timothy 2:20-21), expect a clean break from the past like Elisha’s life. After Elijah threw his cloak around him, Elisha left his family behind to answer a call by the Lord to be Elijah’s successor. His actions were significant as he slaughtered the oxen, burned the plowing equipment to cook the meat, and fed the people before he left. He kissed his father and mother goodbye and then no trace of his former life that might have hindered him from moving forward into the call of God on his life.
God had to dismantle some things in order to reassemble Elisha and preparing him for the next phase of his ministry under the mentorship of Elijah.
It was the same with the disciples of Jesus who left everything behind to follow Him. In Matthew 16:24, Jesus said to his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.”
In Matthew 19:23-29, Jesus said to his disciples, “I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and asked, “Who then can be saved?” Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
Peter answered him, “We have left everything to follow you! What then will there be for us?”
He further added that everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My name's sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and inherit eternal life.”

耶稣说：“我实在告诉你们：你们这跟从我的人，到复兴的时候，人子坐在他荣耀的宝座上，你们也要坐在十二个宝座上，审判以色列十二个支派。”
他进一步补充说，“凡为我的名撇下房屋或是弟兄、姐妹、父亲、母亲、儿女、田地的，必要得着百倍，并且承受永生。然而，有许多在前的将要在后，在后的将要在前。”
